Popcorn Balls

Popcorn Balls

Ann Hollowell's Popcorn Balls made on The Cooking Lady

Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1 ½ cups water
½ cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon white vinegar (optional)
Salt to taste (a little bit of salt is always recommended with sweets)
1 ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract, you can always go 2 teaspoons, I LOVE vanilla
4-5 quarts popped corn, plain, no salt added

What To Do
Pop popcorn.

Add sugar, water, corn syrup, vinegar, and salt to a large sauce pan. Stir well, and cook over medium heat until mixture reaches hard ball stage, around 250 degrees on a good candy thermometer. Hard ball stage is when the mixture is dropped in room temperature water, and you can make a “hard ball” with your fingers.

Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla, and pour over the popcorn which you’ve placed in a very large bowl. BE CAREFUL!! This mixture is very hot. Mix well.

Butter your hands and begin to form balls, place on non stick surface to cool. Makes at least a dozen, depending on the size you prefer.
